Berkano

Berkano: meaning

Growth needs concrete conditions and a manageable scale. Adding activity can undermine something still taking shape.

Symbols and details in the image

Notice the sign ᛒ: a stem with two closed angular shapes to its right, inside a fine circle. Which detail catches your attention first? Explore the image and connect that detail with your question: gestures, shapes and contrasts open up new associations.

Berkano: interpretation

What needs space, attention or fewer demands to develop?

A reading step by step

Explore the three positions of Elder Futhark runes with this example. Place the images in the stated order and follow each row’s ideas. Then connect the three themes: how does the perspective change from one position to the next?

• First element · Berkano: Growth needs concrete conditions and a manageable scale.
• Second element · Ehwaz: Cooperation involves adjusting rhythms without requiring identical working styles.
• Third element · Mannaz: A community brings different experiences and participation rules together.

History and inspiration

The Elder Futhark brings together twenty-four writing signs. This collection presents them in original drawings so you can recognise each rune and compare their shapes. Our present-day readings connect the signs with resources, cooperation and taking a pause, beginning with your question.
